porto recanati
A privileged destination for relaxing summer holidays, Porto Recanati is a cozy seaside resort where you can breathe a special atmosphere of tranquility, ideal for families and children. It is a quaint fishing town that offers a beautiful seafront, completely closed to traffic, perfect for healthy walks or bike rides through the colorful houses of the village.
The medieval Castello Svevo, built as a defense against pirate attacks and where the entire city life took place, stands in the central square of the town. The large courtyard hosts the arena dedicated to the citizen tenor Beniamino Gigli. In summertime, it becomes the stage of many cultural events. Not far away from the town is an archaeological area that, with its numerous finds, brought to life the ancient Roman city Potentia, testimony of Roman colony origins. Porto Recanati is also known for having welcomed the Holy House of the Madonna in the Scossicci area, during the translations that would then take it to Loreto. In memory of this event, the Banderuola Church was built so that its waving flag would show fishermen and sailors the way from Porto Recanati to the Holy House of Loreto.
